‘One-woman record label’ Lauren Tate has taken a break from her grunge-punk band Hands Off Gretel to release her first solo album in five years. <\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

And now she\u2019s taking Songs For Sad Girls out on the road, with a prestigious support slot with rock legend Ginger Wildheart and one of his side projects, The Sinners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tate, who\u2019s still just 22, grew up in South\nYorkshire, and was a secondary school dropout, writing and self-producing music\nfrom her bedroom from the age of 15. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Delving into many musical genres, she recently stripped back to a softer, raw Americana sad-pop sound for Songs For Sad Girls. She recorded and self-produced 11 of its 14 tracks in her home studio, and it\u2019s available now through her own Trash Queen Records label.<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt was important for me to keep the album unapologetic and blunt, with lyrics addressing hard-to-swallow subjects such as self-harm, gun violence and abusive relationships in a real way like something I\u2019d write in a diary,\u201d she said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
