MC16 – Outvoted By Robots EP.<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

MC16 are a punk trio from the Midlands\nwho recently made their second appearance at the world-famous Rebellion\nFestival in Blackpool.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They played the Pavilion Stage on the\nSunday after making their debut the previous year on the Introducing\u2026Stage, and\nthis is their debut EP.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Carson (guitar\/ vocals), Quinn (bass\/\nvocals) and Duffy (drums) make a very pleasing racket indeed, full of anger and\nenergy, and no little musicianship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

MC16 believe music should challenge,\nconfront, question and<\/em> entertain – and\nthis release does all the above \u2013 and more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It starts with Burn It Down<\/strong>, which features a great dirty guitar riff, driving drums and bass and snarled vocals, before simmering down into a reggae beat and then kicking back with a vengeance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Things step up a gear with the furious City Killer<\/strong>, which rails against the authorities for their failure to tackle homelessness, asking \u201cIs this your city, one which keeps on killing people?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Third track The Sergeant<\/strong> lulls you into a false sense of security by starting slowly, before bursting into life with some jagged shards of guitar and urgent vocals, before unleashing its warning on the dangers of bullying military culture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Closing track Vive La France!<\/strong> rounds matters off nicely, a rumination on the power contained in words of inspiration, as well as words of fear. All in all, this is a fine debut, and I can\u2019t wait to hear more from MC16.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
