Feminist post-hardcore band Petrol Girls have shared a glimpse into life on the road with a music video for new single Monstrous on the day they kick off their headline tour of the UK.

Ren Aldridge of Petrol Girls.

Filmed by Martyna Wisniewska (@gingerdope) over tours with Refused and Thrice and La Dispute, the clip is an intimate portrait of Petrol Girls on tour, both on stage and off.

Vocalist Ren Aldridge says Monstrous “is about feeling mined and drained and too much and not enough and, ultimately, monstrous. It’s also about how I sometimes feel on stage or on social media. Sometimes I find fronting a feminist band too much pressure from too many different directions.”

Petrol Girls were formed in London in 2012 by Aldridge and bassist Liepa Kuraitė, with Joe York and Zock Astpai joining later on guitar and drums respectively.

They released their debut album Talk Of Violence on Bomber Music in 2017, with standout track Touch Me Again rounding furiously on those who think it’s all right to sexually assault women.

Switching to Hassle Records (home to the likes of Cancer Bats and Senses Fail) they released second album Cut And Stitch, from which Monstrous is taken, last year. (Read our review here).

Petrol Girls are one of the best hardcore feminist bands around.

As well as this month’s headline tour of the UK and Ireland, Petrol Girls will be headlining mainland Europe in February, and they’re getting set to visit North America for the first time, where they’ll be playing SXSW and New Colossus, followed by some headline dates.

Widely hailed as a visceral, thought-provoking and cathartic experience, Petrol Girls’ live show is not to be missed.
